Falx

Postby Volusius Vetonianus » 09 Mar 2010, 00:38

Hi,

I am very interested in the falx!
And I am searching for good close-up photos of this fierce weapon.

You can use is sword-like and as a pole-weapon, what is prefered and why?
What is the ideal length of the pole?
And is it easy to fabricate it by yourself?

Salve !

Care dintre daci ( specialisti - arheologi care stiu engleza ) pot sa-i raspunda lui Volusius ???
Omul ne-a pus cateva intrebari de specialitate ( si el e arheolog din cate am inteles).
A intrebat chestiuni specifice pt. daci - falx, sica,etc....
Va rog sa-i raspundeti !

Salve Volusius!
I am very pleased to find out that you like this weapon. Unfortunately, there aren`t many of them found, tis are the images of the ones that I know

Image

About the lenght of the pole, all I can tell you is that it was a double-handed weapon, but the actual lenght is still a debate. We know that there were some of them with a considerable lenght, such as this one, depicted on the Tropaeum Traiani monument form Adamclisi, Romania

Image

We have some replicas from this weapon in our group, I will put here an image with one of the finest

About the problem of fabrication, I will ask the owner of that Falx to answer. Hope the informations will be of some, use, and we expect you to ask again if you want to know anything about dacians or romans from Dacia.
